What is a Nurse Practitioner
A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse (RN) who has advanced
education and clinical training in the health care field.
Nurse Practitioners practice under the rules and regulations
of the Nurse Practice Act in Oregon. They are recognized as
expert health care providers.
In general, nurse practitioners can perform many of the
same functions as physicians. They can prescribe medicines,
nutritional and physical therapies, and perform various minor
office procedures. Referrals are made to physicians and specialists
when advanced care is indicated.
